Thank you for your interest in our services (the “Services”).  Your privacy is important to us, and Forensic Analytical Crime Lab (“FACL,” “we,” or “us”) recognizes the importance of protecting this information.  We have therefore implemented this Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) to govern the collection of data received from you through this website.  Any personal information received by FACL through this site is treated according to FACL’s Privacy Policy.

What information do we collect?

Information You Provide Directly

We collect information that you (“you,” “your,” or “Consumer”) provide us directly, including when you contact us using the “Contact” tab on our web page, complete our “Case Intake Form,” or send us an email at [email protected].  Information that may be collected includes any information you may voluntarily provide us, such as text characters and any audio, video, and graphic information formats that you include in your message, as well as information that might be transmitted automatically by your email application, including headers.

Information We Collect Automatically

Our servers automatically log information about your use of and visits to the website through the use of cookies and similar technologies. For example, we may collect your IP address, the type of web browser and operating system used to access the site, the time and duration of your visits, and information about the content and webpages you view, the features you access on the site, and any technical details that may occur with any website errors.

FACL uses “cookies” on its site, which are files that help us to identify repeat visitors to our site and help us to improve access.  Cookies can also enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance their experience on our site. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information on our files.

Information from Third Parties

We may receive additional information about you from other publicly and commercially available sources, as permitted by law.

We may also use “Captcha” technology on our website to protect FACL from automated attacks.  We do not store any information related to any “Captcha” you may complete.

Why do we collect this information?

FACL collects information solely for its business purpose. We use the information we collect and receive to provide and improve our Services, improve our other products, services, and offerings, as well as to provide you with information you request, or respond to inquiries we receive from you or your company or organization. We also may use such information to analyze how users use the Services and related analysis, research, reporting, and troubleshooting and as we believe is necessary or appropriate to protect, enforce, or defend legal rights, privacy, safety or property, whether our own or that of our employees or agents or others, and to comply with applicable law.

How long do you keep my information?

We keep your information for only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this privacy notice unless otherwise required or permitted by law  (such as tax, accounting, or other legal requirements).  We will delete your information when we no longer have any ongoing legitimate business need to keep it.

Do you sell my personal information?

No.  We do not sell personal information provided by you to FACL to anyone.  Moreover, we only have access to information that you voluntarily give us via email or other direct contact from you.

Do you share my personal information?

We may share your personal information with third parties consistent with applicable law in the following circumstances:

  • Companies that provide us technical support, data hosting, and other services;
  • When required by law or as necessary to provide or protect our services, products, and other offerings. For example, we may need to disclose information with other parties to comply with the law or respond to legal process or a request for cooperation by a government entity or law enforcement; to prevent fraud or verify and enforce compliance with the policies and terms governing our Services; and to protect the rights, property, or safety of us, or any of our respective affiliates, business partners, customers or employees;

How do you secure my personal information?

We understand that the nature of our Services requires the submission of potentially sensitive information.  As such, FACL uses industry standard security measures to protect the information under our control, including encryption, firewalls and other security measures.  Any information provided to us via our website is securely transmitted and encrypted.  However, we cannot guarantee the security of unencrypted electronic mail traffic.

Once the information is in our system, it is accessible to authorized FACL personnel only, and only for the purpose of providing you with the Services for which we are contracted.  We strictly enforce our privacy policies with our employees and any breach of this policy will result in appropriate disciplinary action.

The Services may contain links or references to third-party owned or operated websites or online services. FACL is not responsible for the collection of personal information or the security or privacy of such information on any such third-party sites or services. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of any other site that collects personally identifiable information.

Likewise, FACL is not responsible for the collection, usage and disclosure policies and practices (including the data security practices) of any other app developer, app provider, social media platform provider, operating system provider, wireless service provider or device manufacturer, including with respect to any personal information you disclose to such other organizations through or in connection with our social media pages, any mobile sites, applications, widgets, and other mobile interactive features.

What about Children’s privacy?

We do not aim our Services directly at children under the age of 18, and do not collect personal information about children under the age of 18.

Due to changes in the law, technology, our Services, or the needs of our business, we may update or modify this Privacy Policy from time to time.  We will disclose the date of our last update on this page.
